Man who lost life savings gets money back and a Kinect

Stay away from carnival games, kids! Reveling in the misfortune of others isn’t something I try to frequently do, but the larger-than-life story about a New Hampshire man whoburned through his life savingsat a carnival in an attempt to win a Kinect was simply too much to handle. Making matters even more humorous, Henry Gribbohm ultimately ended up with a stuffed banana as his prize. The thing haddreadlocks, for eff’s sake!...

Massive lines and raffles continue in Japan for the Nintendo Switch

Crazy Just last month we reported on the dire situation of picking up a Nintendo Switch in Japan, and it hasn’t gotten any better. If anything, the lines have gotten longer and the raffles have gotten more fierce. According to multiple sourcesover in Japan, Switch lines are now referred to as “地獄,” which roughly translates to “hell.” While stores struggle to meet demand with 200-300 units (a number that would be a boon in the west), several thousand people are lining up for a chance to get one, leaving said stores to implement a raffle system....

Meet the mind behind gaming’s weirdest playlist

A conversation on curating little strange creations It’s easy to take video games for granted. There’s just so many of them. By May 2017 alone, over 50 games have had physical releases, in addition to the thousands of titles launched digitally on platforms like Steam. A staggering amount of them were met with critical and commercial praise. The culture surrounding video games, too, is pervasive. People openly care about games. They slipZeldareferences into normal conversations and wear sweatshirts emblazoned withMass Effectlogos in public....

Microsoft pushed out a pretty big Xbox One update for Insiders this week

1440p, better Mixer support, enhanced audio I dig Microsoft’s approach to console updates. They’re not every other week like Sony, and when they do arrive, they herald myriad enhancements, not just “stability.” For their spring Xbox One update that’s rolling out to Insiders this week, you’ll now have the option to swap to 1440p video, share a controller over Mixer (their streaming platform that still needs traction but is actually nice to use), a better Edge browser, a balance option for your own tunes versus game audio, more Club filter options, smarter feed sorting options, and open tournaments through Game Hubs....

Nintendo is eating costs to ship more Switch units by plane

$45 per unit estimation While Nintendo was enjoying a surge in popularity with the Switch compared to their last console, they were eating a hefty amount of cost shipping it out to get it into the hands of its end users. According to the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo used aircraft to directly distribute many Switch units from China, which were shipped to the US and Europe in March. Since then they’ve moved back to the more common freight system (starting in April), but according to researchers Nintendo ate a cost of roughly $45 per unit to meet demand with the plane shipments....

The recently releasedTalking to Women about Videogamesalbumjust got five brand new tracks. Actually, that’s not exactly right. That means that if you downloaded the album within the past week or so then that song wont be new to you, but the new track by Jim Sterling and Raik Hohendorf will be new toeveryone....

Oh yeah, you’re also a cop in Sleeping Dogs

I’ve gotten so wrapped up in all of the gang focused media forSleeping Dogsthat I totally forgot you’re really an undercover cop! I think it’s an easy fact to forget since these open world games usually see you playing as the bad guys. So, like many of the features ofSleeping Dogs, it’s a nice change of pace from the norm. In this latest look, protagonist Wei Shen is on an undercover mission to find a serial killer targeting and harvesting organs from Triad members....

Overwatch Season 10 is now underway, Brigitte playable in competitive

Also a new map is out today It’s hard to believe thatOverwatchis now nearly two years old at this point. It simultaneously feels like it’s been around forever and just launched, but once I start thinking about how we’ve gone through repeated seasonal events, it all sort of just comes together. Another telltale sign is that the game is currently in its 10th ranked season, which just kicked off this week....

It’s not over ’til it’s over Platinum Games may have completed the quartet of announcements that make up the “Platinum 4,” but it seems the developer isn’t done just yet, and is now teasing a fifth reveal – or “Bonus Stage” – to be announced at some point in the future. Review in Progress: Destiny (update)

[Since a large part ofDestinyis found within the raid system upon reaching max level, we’ll be publishing a Review in Progress for the game over the course of a few weeks. Here are our thoughts about the live version.] Destinyfinally landed this week, andbased off my initial impressions, my first foray into the world Bungie built was mixed. Having worked my way up to level 11 at that point, I was mostly experiencing the basic game modes and enjoying PVP quite a bit, but I was very disappointed in the story....

Some things are just better in Japanese

When I saw the above trailer crop up in my feeds this morning, the title was entirely in Japanese. Since I am barely capable of reading English with proficiency, I just went ahead and clicked anyway. And while I couldn’t quite shake the feeling that I’d seen it before, it looked fantastic. I’m not a military shooter buff or anything, but this was something peoplewould take notice of. Once I saw the Eiffel Tower for the second time, I figured out what this was....
