Like a bat out of Hell

There’s a string of similar games by Fantasy Flight, starting with the originalDoom: The Boardgame, which released in 2004 to coincide withDoom 3. It features a team of up to four players against one player controlling the forces of evil. This was adapted onto a fantasy theme inDescent: Journeys in the Darkin 2005, which itself was updated with the more streamlinedSecond Editionin 2012. That system was refined further inStar Wars: Imperial Assaultin 2014, but now it comes full circle withDoom: The Board Game(subtitle: Now There’s a Space Between “Board” and “Game”).

The updatedDoomlooks like it retains a lot of the basics of the original: asymmetric competitive multiplayer, square grid, tactical combat. It sounds like it is also taking elements from the recentDoomvideo game, such as the card artwork and a mechanic for Glory Kills.
