Same goes for Bing

Asked about the possibility of spinning off Microsoft’s Bing and Xbox divisions, founder, technology advisor, and board member Bill Gates said he doesn’t foresee a division of either business unit from the company.

“Well, we’re taking PC gaming — Windows gaming — and Xbox gaming and bringing those a lot closer together,” he toldFox Business. “The power of the PC chip, the graphics chip, means you’re able to do great games there. So I’m sure [Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella] and the team will look at that and, you know, it’s up to them. But we’re going to have an overall gaming strategy, so [spinning off the Xbox business is] not as obvious as you might think.”

Specifically asked if he would supportNadellashould he decide to spin off Xbox, Gates said “Absolutely.” Which makes sense given his advisory role. I just can’t picture Nadella doing that, though. And if you’re hoping Bing will go away, based on the interview with Gates, it’s here to stay.
