Premature acquisition

While it may have failed to achieve an unblemished string of record-breaking launches, there are seemingly a lot of people waiting for next-gen hardware to playCall of Duty: Ghosts. New information from market research firmChart Trackindicates that the PlayStation 4 version ofGhosts, unplayable until the console releases at the end of this week, has even outperformed sales for both the PC and Wii U versions of the title combined

Now, I’ll grant you that these platforms are not whereCall of Dutygenerally sees major success, but to observe a game selling better on a console not even in stores yet still seems a little strange.

I’m also curious to see how the title will perform on Xbox One when it goes on sale, as the Xbox 360 release has beaten out the PlayStation 3 version by nearly two-to-one. While I don’t think ofCall of Dutyas being a “system seller” or “killer app,” there are tons of people for whom it’s the only game which matters. If there’s any sense of brand loyalty to the Xbox platform from these fans, it might actually give Microsoft an edge they need to help counter the higher price they’re demanding for their new hardware.
