V has (not) come to
I’ll be blunt. Hearing that Capcom isn’t planning any more DLC forDevil May Cry 5stings a bit. Without spoiling anything, there are a few obvious crowd-pleasing directions the developers could take with further post-launch support. The game rules, don’t get me wrong, but it could rule even harder.
Fans have takenDevil May Cry 5‘s early critical and commercial success as an indicator that more good things are surely on the way, but Capcom producer Matt Walker recently set the record straight about future add-ons. Asked on Twitter about potential “Ladies Night” DLC and the possibility of extra playable characters, Walker responded that development on the game is now “finished.”
He specifically noted that the developers “don’t plan on adding any more content toDMC5.”
Continuing, Walker explained that he would “personally like to see the [Devil May Cry] ladies playable too”and expressed his hope that“at some point we can convince the people up top that it’s worth doing.”On the subject of game sales, “We in R&D1 are proud of what we’ve accomplished with it.”
All that said, this series is clearly no stranger to special editions. DLC or no DLC, it’s not far-fetched to believe Capcom will eventually return to expandDevil May Cry 5with a beefed-up release. Maybe by then, I’ll have finally made it to the end of the Bloody Palace. Wishful thinking at its finest.
On the bright side, I hope this means game director Hideaki Itsuno is well on his way toDragon’s Dogma 2. Given that he chose to prioritizeDevil May Cry 5over making that sequel, we have certain expectations, y’know? I’m jealous of theDragon’s Dogmafirst-timers who are only now discovering this (mostly) delightfully ambitious action-RPG on Nintendo Switch. They’re masterworks, all.
