The piracy of Nintendo DS titles has making headlines lately, so it’s no surprise that game makers are doing their best to thwart the piracy of their own titles in whatever way possible. Of course, their efforts to block copying are usually defeated by the piracy community fairly quickly after release. It’s like a game within a game!

This time around, Square Enix tried to block flash cart usage by making the opening sequence ofDragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Brideloop infinitely. If pirated, after the game boots, the player can only watch a never-ending boat ride. According toNintendo World Report, Square Enix confirmed that this was a copy protection mechanism.

Of course, modders have already found a way around this boat ride, and a modified ROM dump is out and about… if you roll like that.
