11 years after its initial release,GTA Vis back at the topof the charts, according to data collated by GamesIndustry.biz, having been the best-selling game in Europe during August. The game has sold more than 200 million copies globally, with only Minecraft having sold more copies.
There was some anticipation that the newly launchedStar Wars Outlawswould take the spot for game sales in August, but lackluster sales for the new release andGTA V’s seemingly unending allure meant that wasn’t the case, with Rockstar’s title pushing theStar Warsopen world game back into second position.Hogwarts Legacywas the third best-selling title for the month withKingdom Come: DeliveranceandEA Sports FC 24rounding out the top five.

GTA Vlaunched in September 2013 to much acclaim. In particular, it was roundly praised for its solid single-player campaign, which lasts more than 30 hours and includes tons of side quests and additional content for intrepid players.
However, it is the game’s online campaign,GTA Onlinethat has helped it remain in the public eye and on top-selling games charts. The game still has a considerable online following and has become extremely popular with content creators for its roleplaying capabilities. There were plans forGTA Vto have three DLC packs, although only one of these materialized as an online download. Rockstar has previously stated that its work onRed Dead Redemption 2and continued work onGTA Onlineled to the DLCs being scrapped.

In late 2023, fans of the series were treated toa trailer for the next gamein the series,GTA 6. It is expected to be released in fall 2025 and has been confirmed for launch on the Xbox Series X/S and PS5. It has not yet been confirmed for release on previous-gen consoles, however.
