Although it still pretty much looks the same in terms of its textures and polygonal aging, there have been some noteworthy changes to the lighting and shadow effects. It looks very impressive, breathing new life into the 27-year-old release.

It’s nice to see the 1996 entry still getting some attention after all these years.Tomb Raidermade waves for its 3D adventure story and gameplay mechanics (at a time when 3D was starting to take off).

Croft (or her manor, at least) has also appeared in games likePowerWash Simulator, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (best known for creating the critically acclaimed sitcomFleabag) is writingTomb Raiderfor a TV series.

In short, Croft is by no means done for. The older installments may look dated now, but it’s nice to see modern technology giving a fresh look to a retro game.
