Yawie is a giantAnomalocarisand the final story boss ofDave the Diver.Here’s how to get through this unique multi-phase boss fight!
Phase 1: This is a bullet hell now
Yawie turnsDave the Diverinto a bullet hell. You’re able to move around the left side of the screen and use Duff’s drone to shoot at her. The drone will also maintain your oxygen levels so you don’t lose oxygen by swimming. It doesn’t heal you though; it only maintains your current oxygen level.
Do your best to dodge Yawie’s projectiles and keep firing at it. You have unlimited ammo, so feel free to just hold down left-click. You can shoot most projectiles to destroy them before they hurt you.
Holding right-click slows down the projectiles to give you more time to dodge. There is a purple bar on the bottom left of your screen that depletes the longer you slow down time. If the bar runs out, it will need to refill at least partially before you may use the time-slowing feature again.
Partway through this phase, Duff will unlock the Stella Laser for you. Hold the spacebar to charge the laser, and release it when the light starts to flash. The laser deals impressive damage, but your movement is hampered while charging, and using your time-slowing ability will cancel the charge.
Phase 2: You chase Yawie
When you deal enough damage to Yawie, the fight will progress to its second phase. After a brief cutscene, Yawie will try to flee. The game now becomes a side-scrolling bullet hell with similar mechanics but different attack patterns.
Continue to dodge and fire at Yawie. She generously gives you time to use your Stella Laser between attacks, so take advantage of those windows to deal damage to her.
Phase 3: Yawie chases you
After a while, Yawie will blast a hole in the ceiling. After another brief cutscene, you find yourself escaping upwards while Yawie chases after you.
You can’t attack Yawie during this phase. You can only dodge as she blasts fire at you. Her head tracks you to a certain degree but locks in its angle just before she fires. Keep strafing from side to side to avoid her fire.
Phase 4: Finish this
After a while, the chase will end with another cutscene where Yawie bashes through a wall.There are some quick-time events,so be ready to press the right keys when prompted.
Now, Yawie finds herself stuck in the rubble, covered in flammable resin. The Sea People will show up to help you aim a large fish-shaped weapon. Grab one of the Divine Tree Fruits (the glowing yellow balls) and drop it into the slot on top of the weapon.
