Could be nothing, could be late
In March of this year,Legend of ZeldaWii U producer Eiji Aonuma noted that Nintendo is “no longer making a 2015 release [its] number one priority.” Given that this last E3 scooted by with only 3DS spinoffs for the series (and that this year is winding down fast) that seems a given at this point: noZeldaWii U this year.
Next year, though?
At E3, Shigeru Miyamotonoted, “We have some really greatZeldafootage and, at some point we will be showing that off, but not today” before confirming, “Zeldais still coming to Wii U, so don’t worry about that.”
It might make you ears perk up a bit, then, to see the still unnamedThe Legend of ZeldaWii U listed as (TBD) inNintendo’s recent financials, right underneath 2016 confirmed releases likeMario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic GamesandGenei Ibun Roku #FE(also not a final name, thanks). It just seems a bit weird not to confirm 2016. Maybe it is still coming to Wii U, but launching alongside Nintendo’s secret new “NX” console in 2017? Maybe Nintendo just didn’t want to over commit to a 2016 release, preferring its flagship entry to be “finished when it’s finished,” satiating fans with spinoffs in the interim.Chissà? Something to look out for, maybe.
