New information from today’sMario Kart WorldDirect is reason enough for Nintendo fans to get even more excited for the launch title on Switch 2, coming in early June.

“No roads, no problem” inMario Kart World’sfree roam mode, says Nintendo, where players can explore the open map’s different locations, driving through desert areas, swimming through oceans, and more for the sake of discovery and hidden collectibles.

That’s right. Hidden collectibles as part of “hundreds of P switches” that are hidden across the open world will trigger missions, along with special coins and panels that encourage players to “take the scenic route and explore.”

Special Yoshi’s Drive-Thru restaurants throughout the open world will also feature unlockable outfits for every racer, each of which is inspired by the style of Dash Food you consume, offering more collectibles to find throughout the game. Costumes can then be selected when choosing a driver.

Free Roam inMario Kart Worldalso includes a special photo mode, which is always a welcome addition in any game, for those players who enjoy expressing themselves artistically with all sorts of framing, poses, and more.

Today’s Direct also revealed more information about several new courses in the game, along with confirming classic courses will be making a return as well. There are also several new items to use, like a Coin Shell, Ice Flower, Hammer, and Mega Mushroom that will make you explode in size.

The best new item, though, is the Feather. When triggered, this item will help you jump to avoid incoming shells or other items, which I will absolutely need as every race in Mario Kart feels like a targeted attack.

Mario Kart Worldis a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, exclusively on the new console, and both will drop on June 5. That is, if you find yourself able to pre-order either one of them.
