The zombies are placeholders, thankfully

Earlier this yearwe reported thatGarry’s Mod, the sandbox physics game based onHalf-Life 2, had earned $22 million over the last seven years and that creator Garry Newman’s team, Facepunch, was looking into starting development on a new game that Newman had been wanting to make “for ages.”

Well,Rustis officially in alpha development. Right now, the multiplayer survival game looks like a mix ofMinecraftandDayZ, as you cut down trees to build sanctuary from the crippling cold.According to PC Gamer, Newman is presently working to keep the game from being “just likeDayZ,” adding, “we also hate zombies and are going to replace them with other NPCs at some point.”

Now that’s what I like to hear. What about you? Is there room in this growing genre that has recently seen entries likeState of DecayandMiasmata? The upcomingSir, You Are Being Hunteddefinitely seems more up my alley, butRusthas at least piqued my interest. I like the idea of cold as an enemy and I like that they’re ditching zombies posthaste.
