Eat folks for the greater good Destructoid recently caught up with the folks atGaijin GamesChoice Provisionsto check out the studio’snextBit.Tripgamecompletely new project,Tharsis. The turn-based strategy game follows a team of astronauts on a mission to Mars. Of course, things quickly go awry for our intrepid heroes, because nothing good ever happens in space. An asteroid strikes the vessel carrying the explorers, which proves to be quite the problem. Fires erupt all over the ship....

Our Dream Today we honor the life of the late, great,Martin Luther King Jr. Besides giving many of us a day home from the office, we look back at a man that pioneered the African American Civil Rights Movement, and all helped changed human rights forever. Although things in the world are still far from perfect, it’s amazing to look back at how much they’ve changed since the 60s. As we look around at the awesome things floating around the Modern Method Network today, let’s not forget all the people that gave everything to ensure all the freedoms we enjoy today....

Mass Effect More A new entry in theMass Effectseries, developed by BioWare’s Montreal studio, is currently playable. Not by us outside the studio, of course. BioWare Edmonton and Montreal general manager Aaryn Flynntweeted, “Great time playing the next Mass Effect game in Montreal. Ambitious. Beautiful. Fresh but recognizable. MythicOwl has officially revealed itsupcoming delivery game,Truckful. While delivery may not sound exciting (it does to me), this one has you competing with bouncy physics similar to, say,Moving Out. There are also hints of deeper mysteries. Probably not, like,dangerousmysteries.Truckfuladvertises itself as a cozy delivery game, after all. However, the trailer has the truck diverted into a dark forest where some sort of sinister creature lurks. I’m only speculating here, but I’m guessing that, eventually, you have to deliver the creature’s stuff....

Studio behind Assassin’s Creed IV and more The sweltering, tropical city-state of Singapore is home to one of Ubisoft’s branch studios, Ubisoft Singapore. This is the studio behind the naval combat segments ofAssassin’s Creed III, and those went over so well that they’re now working on several aspects ofAssassin’s Creed IV‘s open-world gameplay, including the water tech,underwater exploration, naval battles, andawesome shark harpooning. We had the pleasure of visiting Singapore to learn more about this studio, its staff, and the fascinating city itself....

Minecraft’s1.21 update introduced the mace, a melee weapon that gets its uniqueness from damage that directly scales with fall damage. Not only can you use it to eliminate fall damage altogether in some cases, but using enchantments like Breach lets you shred through some of the game’s toughest enemies. Super Meat Boywasn’t the first game to make instant death a central gameplay theme, but it’s certainly one of the best examples of how to effectivelyemploy that design. If the game had life meters and regenerating health, I doubt that it would be as exciting and potentially terrifying as it is. Though it’s not a horror game by any stretch, there is no denying thatSuper Meat Boyhas plenty of scary jumps, death machines, and bloody disasters....
