15 months and nine major patches later, Trion Worlds is looking to expand the real estate ofRift. With the addition of two new continents, Dusken and Brevane, the player space of the popular MMORPG has been tripled. Trion Worlds said this is more of a necessity then a luxury, since it used so much of the game’s current land mass in quests attached to recent patches.Storm Legionis going to bring some quests and unique additions of its own, as well, though it may take much longer than 15 months to fill up its enormous islands....

This is the first time that Guendouzi has received a promo item in Ultimate Team. Once you complete the SBC, you get to pick the special card you like. TheNeed for Speedseries is getting a major overhaul in 2009,EA has told Eurogamer. Currently, the plan is to release three distinct games, all of which tackle different audiences:Shift(360, PS3, PC, PSP — autumn),Nitro(Wii, DS — autumn), andWorld Online(PC — winter). Need for Speed: Shift, which is pictured above (in-game footage, I might add), is strictly simulation racing. It’s less “urban underground” and more about “mirroring the driver experience, that athleticism of being in a wickedly-intense race, and what it really feels like to be behind the wheel,” says EA marketing boss Keith Munro....

While Game Freak no doubt has its hands full working onPokémon Legends ZA, it’s had the time to work on another project independent of its iconic monster-catching franchise. Although this one is distinctly smaller-scale, being a free-to-play mobile game titledPand Land. Game Freak is not the sole developer on this title, having partnered with another Japanese studio called WonderPlanet, which has primarily worked on other free-to-play mobile games. My favorite session at GDC this week so far has been Tim Cain’s postmortem onFallout. A little while ago, I relayed a story about howa licensing issue nearly killed the gameand forced a two-week re-write of the entire game’s code. But another anecdote from Cain about dealing with Microsoft’s certification process really tickled my funny bone. AsFalloutwas getting closer to release, Interplay decided that they wanted to have Windows 95 branding on their package, to take advantage of the operating system’s cachet as the future of personal computing....
