Blizzard credits the community for the changes StarCraft IIis about to get a complete revamp of its ladder mode. In addition to making MMR visible to players, there’s also a progress bar. Grandmaster League will now have a “daily” promotion and demotion system, which will have the secondary bonus of helping Blizzard manage tournaments. I know a lot of people have no interest in competitive modes, but Blizzard has always done a great job of catering to the hardcore community, which are the ones playing their games and supporting them years down the line....

Stardew Valleyplayers are no strangers to the concept of relationships and marriage to the many villager NPCs. Once you marry a villager, they move into your Farmhouse and begin to have an effect on their surroundings. Strap in for more System Shock drama The largest video game investor in the world just saved a moribund sequel from death’s doorstep. The always-divisive Tencent has seemingly bought the rights toSystem Shock 3from OtherSide Entertainment. In abrief messageposted to the OtherSide website, the developer said “We are happy to announce that Tencent will be taking theSystem Shockfranchise forward. As a smaller indie studio, it had been challenging for us to carry the project on our own....

…in Asia Kamen Ridergames are hard to come by domestically (seeing as how there’s basically no support for the niche fandom here), but if you’re willing to import, Namco Bandai just might’ve greased the wheels on their upcomingKamen Rider: Climax Fightersfor PS4. The Asia release of the game will come complete with English subtitles, so if you’re willing to pay a little more for it (like me) then it’s the closest we’ll ever get to an EnglishKamen Ridergame since, uh,Dragon Knighton the DS I think....

Showing off the narrative backdrop for leaving Earth I have been working on a review for the upcoming sci-fi strategy gameSid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth, and one of the things I could not wait to talk about is the introductory cinematic. It seems silly, but for a series that has historically been all about the gameplay, introducing a narrative that provides extrinsic motivation to play is new. Surprisingly, the video hit me right in the emotions....

Laughing Jackal has announced that its bringing a new rhythm game,Vibes, to PlayStation Minis on June 8. The game will feature 13 music tracks, including classical, J-Pop, psychobilly, and punk. Gameplay looks like it revolves around tapping face buttons on your PS3 controller or PSP as their corresponding icons invade a center target, spilling in from the four corners of the screen. Laughing Jackal is all about the game’s “music-video inspired background sequences,” which look like over-the-top visualizers, with imagery like ducks, sumo wrestlers, and dancing buildings....

Still coming in March Nathan Drake has fought plenty of worthy foes in his adventures across theUncharteduniverse, and Nadine Ross looks like no exception. She’ll be featured inUncharted 4next year, and seems to be a boss fight of sorts. In this scene, Nate is somewhere he “isn’t supposed to be” — oh that wacky Nate! — and Nadine happens to come across him. It feels like a frenemy type of situation, like she’s after the same thing as him and isn’t inherently evil, but we’ll see....
