Not because they didn’t want to do it

EA has just confirmed what we all assumed —Star Wars Battlefrontwas partially rushed to ensure that it dropped before the release of the filmStar Wars Awakens.

Speaking onan investor broadcast, EA exec Patrick Soderlund spoke to quality concerns forBattlefront, noting: “We made [the choice to eliminate single-player] due to time and being able to launch the game side-by-side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact.”

He also addressed the lower Metacritic rating compared to otherBattlefieldgames, stating: “I think the team created a really good game based on the premise that we had. I would say the game has done very well for us and reached a very different demographic than a traditional EA game. So from that perspective, it’s a success. Are we happy with the 75 rating? No. Is that something we’re going to cure going forward? Absolutely.”

He stopped short of saying that the lower scores and the lack of a campaign were related, but that concern was expressed in many reviews, so he’s for sure aware of it. Let’s see what the nextBattlefrontgame brings, I guess! This one in some ways feels like a beta.
