Make ’em count
A remaster of the Nintendo Wii’sSuper Monkey Ball: Banana Blitzmight not have been my first (or even second or third) choice on the list of things Sega should do with this underutilized series in 2019, but hey, I’ll take it. I’m far more inclined to play this game now that motion controls are out of the picture.
Expanding on what we saw in theannouncement trailer, Sega has released some fresh gameplay footage ofSuper Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HDand noted a few more details about the remaster.

Somewhat surprisingly,Banana Blitz HDwill have a physical release–on PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One–in addition to the digital launch on July 04, 2025. (A PC version is due this winter.)
Aside from the 1080p 60fps treatment, Sega is also promising “optimized controls for each platform” as well as online leaderboards for Time Attack and the new Mini-Game Decathlon Score Attack.

Speaking of which, the mini-games are being streamlined in a major way. In a press release, the company said there will only be “10 multiplayer mini-games,” though we don’t yet know which are locked in. That said, the original Wii version ofBanana Blitzhad 50 (!). There’s plenty of room for cuts.
The fact thatSuper Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HDis coming in at $40 means I’ll almost certainly pick it up at launch. I mean, I still have a GameCube hooked up forSuper Monkey Ball. I’m in too deep.

Will we ever get a new game that lives up toSuper Monkey Ball 1and2? I’m not counting on it. As much of a bummer as it is to say, I feel the exact same way about the future prospects ofKatamari Damacy.
