On your feet, soldier
Canadian developer The Coalition has opened a vacancy for aSenior Gameplay Designer, specifically citing that the successful applicant will be working on a new project in theGears of Warfranchise. The vacancy, which went live yesterday, was spotted by thenews outlet GameRant.
While there are no clues as to whether the project is a straight sequel, a remaster, or some form of spin-off, The Coalition is looking for applicants with experience in “3CS”, (Character, Camera, Controls), which certainly suggests an over-the-shoulder third-person affair. The job listingcoincides with recent rumorsthat the studio had been pushed to can two unannounced games purely to focus on the lucrative and hugely popular shooter franchise.

(Rumor) Jeff Grubb says The Coalition has canceled its smaller non-Gears project along with another project due to the laid-offs at Microsoft. The studio has fully moved on to Gears 6 over the last year or so.https://t.co/uXq7sxWY7rpic.twitter.com/bY4pE9e913

Giant Bomb writer Jeff Grubb has previously suggested that the next title from The Coalition will beGears 6, which will be the first sequel since the release ofGears 5, which launched on PC and Xbox platforms in the fall of 2019.
“This was all reflected in the layoffs that happened at Microsoft, which did hit The Coalition a little bit,” said Grubb on the Game Mess Mornings Show. “The studio is now going to move on fully toGears 6. I say now, it has likely moved on toGears 6in full over the course of the last year, but, definitely, that will be their next game.”

Still, regardless of whatever title The Coalition has on deck, it is clearly still in its early production stages. As such, fans of the franchise — whether pro-Gears or pro-Horde — will still have quite the wait ahead before they will find themselves revving their Lancers and donning their stomping boots once again.
