You just need an Oculus Rift and a Razer Hydra to play

HydraDeckseems like an appropriately tech demo-y name for a game that uses both an Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset and the Razer Hydra motion controller to put you behind cover. The gameplay premise may not be as novel as it was even a few years ago, but leave it to VR to make shooting at aliens from behind cover fresh again.

Teddy0k, the creator of this project, has been putting out updateson the Oculus Developer Forums. In this video demonstration, we’re looking at version 0.2 ofHydraDeck, so if this picks up steam there could be more on the way. I hope he keeps iterating even if I can’t play it myself.

As impressive as the game is, I’m immediately compelled to think about wherethis hardware combinationcould go beyond cover-based shooting. Imagine a first-person sword-fighting game or, better yet, some fresh hell from the creators ofAmnesia. Those were just the first two that popped into my head; countless other ideas could greatly benefit from this enhanced level of immersion. We just need enough people who want these experiences for them to get made.
