From $9.99 to $14.99

I’m going to preface this community question by stating the obvious — the way Sony is handling backward compatibility is not ideal. It has had issues in the past with it, like some PS3s past a certain datenot playing PS2 games natively(my in-the-clearMetal Gear Solid 4PS3 broke, so sad), and the whole fiasco with the Vita (some digital PSP gamesstillaren’t compatible!). But this situation kind of sucks all around.

Sony has announced that PS2 games are coming to PS4 in waves, priced at $9.99 to $14.99. The catch is, youcannot authenticate any compatible games with a disc, and you need tobuy them all over again, even if you own it already in some form. It’s a far cry from Microsoft’samazing backward compatibility rolloutrecently — in my mind, Microsoft and Sony have completely switched places in terms of current-gen functionality and image.

So anyway, with all that said, I will be gettingDark Cloudtoday on the PS4, even though I already own a physical copy. I want to support Level 5, and I’m anxious to work my way all the way up to the game’s superboss, Dark Knight Pendragon — one of my favorite endgame encounters of all time. Also, up-rendered 1080p is in, plus Remote Play, Live Broadcast, Share support, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support for manuals, so it’s not all bad.
